Maytag Range cooktop smoking
Model Number: MES5770ACB Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
We have a Maytag MES5770ACB. It's a smooth top slide-in range.
Lately, we have been detecting an electric burning smell when in use - it's somewhat subtle, not overpowering.
The other night we were using the two large burners, the smell was stronger, and when I looked closely, it looked like smoke was coming out from underneath the cooktop. When I opened the oven, there was a small amount of smoke there as well (oven was not on and had not been all day).
I thought it was the rear burner, so last night I was boiling a large pot of water, and the same thing. I shut it down and flipped the breaker off.
This morning, I pulled the stove out and remove the cooktop. I don't see anything out of order. Nothing looks melted or charred, everything looks OK.
Any suggestions on what I should be looking for? At this point, I think I'm going to put the cooktop back on but not screw it down. Run the burner until I see smoke, then take a peek underneath.
Any help welcome,
