Default Err Message in Clock LCD
Model Number: FW646F-1   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: More than 10 years

Our Frigidaire free standing range is a Canadian made model FW646F-1 built in about 1993. I do not know what model this cross references to in US models.

From time to time while baking, an "Err" message comes up in the clock LCD and the oven shuts down. Sometimes the door lock cycles locked, but not always. The same thing occurs during a self-cleaning cycle, and a couple of times the message has come up when everything is off.

There is no accompanying code such as "F2", just"Err". Sometimes it can be cleared by pressing the Off and Run buttons repeatedly, occasionally it is necessary to turn off the circuit breaker and wait a minute or so to clear.

I suspect this is probably a faulty main control circuit board. Any other suggestions?

The big question is can this model be cross-referenced to find the right circuit board part number? It is probably the same as used on one or more US models.

I could always take it out and find the number written on it, but if there is a handy reference I would appreciate it.

Looks like the first failure suspect is the control board but it is not possible to cross reference the Canadian model number.

If you are able to open the control panel and get numbers of the old control board - it might help to get the right part number for a new one.

Gene.
