Washer was not draining, removed both drain and recirculation pumps, cleaned them both and reinstalled, same problem (recirculation pump seemed fine). Ordered new drain pump and replaced, problem solved.
When turning the old drain pump after cleaning, there was no resistance, new pump had several resistance points during a revolution, I wonder if this is caused by a problem with the motor and not the impeller, it was as if the magnet had failed. Otherwise I could not see why the pump failed.
In retrospect I should have replaced the hoses also, the hose from the tub seemed a little worn and there is a little leakage now. But I didn't have the parts so I didn't replace them. The other hoses seemed fine.
This was a stacked washer and dryer, kind of a pain to work on. I first tried to remove the pump the conventional way, by removing the top, then the control panel, then the front, but I gave up and tipped the washer over and removed the pump from the bottom, very easy but a little messy with some water dripping from the hoses. When I got the new pump I removed and replaced the pump from the bottom, I will do it this way from now on, although the first pump lasted 10 years and I doubt the washer will last another 10 years, but who knows.
