The lower right double burner on this range has recently lost its ability to work on any setting except BLAZING HOT. No matter where you set the dial, it seems to be full on. It is a double burner, with the bigger one outside the smaller one, and neither seem to be operating at any setting except 'burn your pancakes really quick'. Ive tried it on low, 3, 5...all of them seem to leave the element on full blast.

What is the cause of this?

Sounds like the infinite switch for that element is toast.

Ugh....its never simple. I guess they updated the switch. Can someone clear up some things for me?

Here are the pics of old and new switch.

https://goo.gl/photos/MhKCKGBuEKiV4DAo6

L2 has TWO red wires on ONE red connector. I believe this is a 'piggyback'. The L2 on my original switch has one wire that goes to supply and one wire that goes to the 'other' switch on the right.

1.) Directions say to split the L2 and put the L2 from supply to P2 on new switch, and the red L2 from the element and put it on 2 on the new switch. BUT my L2 red wire doesnt go to an element, it goes to another switch. What do I do?

2.) Am I supposed to use the jumper that came with the new switch? My old switch has no such jumper. But the directions seem to indicate Im supposed to use it.

Maybe I dont need to separate anything.

The two wires that are 'together on one connector' must both be 'supply', because one leg of that goes to the other switch. The 'braided' looking red wire goes to the element.

So, as far as I can see, I don't separate anything, the double red wire goes to P2 on the new switch and the braided red wire must go to 2 on teh new switch. Then I jumper S1 and P1 as it says.

FIXED!

Installed. No splitting. It is a 'piggyback' but its really the same wire. So, the braid for the element goes to '2', and the L2 double goes to P2. She seems to be working as designed!

Thanks!
