Model Number: PGLEF385CS2 Brand: Frigidaire Age: 5 - 10 years
Hi there:
This is a great forum, I just can't seem to find someone that has put up the same specific info that I have in order to create a good diagnosis. I live in Fort McMurray, home of the Oil Sands, and a northern city with little in the way of service repairfolk. Our landfill gets a lot of appliances that just have popped relays, etc. because it is cheaper to buy knew than to diagnose and fix or there is just no one to find to fix. So anyway, my problem. Went to start up my Frigidaire Smooth top range tonight, (Bake @ 400F) and as I walked away from it I heard a pop and could smell a bit of burning. The circuit panel didn't break, and the range panel went dead. Unplugging and resetting the panel breaker as options didn't change the scenario. All of the range burners work, oven light works, etc. Just can't instruct the oven to turn on. I looked at the oven burners and found no instances of burning or welding. Took off the back panel and got a good woof of burnt stuff, so I am thinking that one of the relays in the panel may have blown. Is there anything for me to test before I try to replace the panel on the range? The thing was built in 2003 so I am not sure how much luck I will have on the replacement part. Thank you for your help, Bob Ads By Google Related Models |

We are having a similar issue with our Frigidaire Self Cleaning Oven (electric).
Our POP issue has been happening for the past four or five weeks. All four burners work well, as do the broiler and bottom oven elements. But sometimes when using the oven with other pots going on the top, we'll get a burning smell and perhaps a bit of light smoke from the back, electrical smoke it seems, and then POP there will be a white light from the oven area and the whole oven will turn off, due to the power breaker flipping. So I go to the garage, flip the breaker to turn it on again, and the stove and oven continue working. Very strange. Everything still works, unbelievably so. I did make sure the house wouldn't burn down, it's not like we were completely freaked out. Heh. I was thinking it might be the sensor to the oven - perhaps it was getting too hot in there and it flipped the breaker. I opened the back of the oven, just to take a look. I found a slight darkened color in the middle area, where the two wires go to feed the top element of the oven. But it all looked intact, it all looked good. But I did find that the backside of the oven light was darkened, almost charcoalish, but just on the two tabs that keep the white light bulb holder in place. That was strange, because the light still worked. So just for kicks, after I put the backside on again, I took out the light bulb to see if that would help. I turned on the oven to 425F and it worked fine with no smell or burning sensation. So then we added a top burner - put on some tea. All was OK, no burning smell. So after all this, could it have been the light fixture? And by taking out the bulb it helped this situation? Perhaps. If it happens again (POP) I'll post. A week before Thanksgiving too... |
