My Ge wall over went on fire due to heating element. When Ge technician came he said I would have to pay for parts and labor. However my door does not fully shut and never has since we purchased the oven therefore due to safety issues I need to purchase a brand new oven
We have called GE trouble shooting # several times regarding the door. Their answer it is suppose to be ajar so it can vent. We had a GE technician come to the house regarding another issue and he also agreed. Door needs to be ajar for venting.
Due to the door being ajar, I could never use the self cleaning function of the stove because my house would fill up with smoke and smell horrible. Instead I cleaned it by hand. I didn't think to unscrew the back panel and clean behind the panel.
Therefore the grease behind the panel caught fire which caused the heating unit to melt and sparks were flying. Thank god it was contained inside the oven. However, when I saw the fire and sparks I immediately shut the oven off and called 911 and ran outside.
The fire marshall said the oven was still on even though the knobs were turned to the off position. My husband quickly shut off the electric circuit breaker/panel to shut off the oven. End of story GE will not replace oven and recommends I purchase a new one for $3000.00 Thanks GE for almost burning down my house and trying to sell me a new oven.
