Our LP gas range is not heating properly and smells strongly of something that isn't right with undertones of gas. When heating it will make a nose like a popping or whosing sound as though going out and relighting. It does not get as hot as it should but the preheated light comes on. The broiler looks like it works but we never use it so we aren't sure how large the flame should be. When we opened the door a few times it would make a 'wosh' sound followed by a relighting sound.

Many people have described a similar problem and it has been the ignithter but I was wondering if the sound of relighting is consistent with this diagnosis. Also what would explain the pre-heat light being lit. Before this I had a slight thought that the oven was running too hot but I didn't have time to look into that.

The top burners are working properly.

Thanks in advance for your help. We don't want replace this range if we don't have to but also don't want to spend tons of $ trying to fix a 15 year old range.
