Default How To Access Heating Element Kithcen Aid Slide In Electric Range
Model Number: KESA907PSS00   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Hello Experts:

I have a Kitchen Aid Slide In Electric Range (Model KESA907PSS00) and the front right heating element is dead (starts to click every second when it heats up). I want to test it and replace (and whatever else might be associated with the clicking) but don't have a step-by-step to access the elements under the glass. Sears Parts Repair Help step-by-step was super low resolution so couldn't expand it to read it, and step by step link did not even work (true for all the links I tried on their website and the images they sent, which were ~70 x 70 pixels so impossible to read). You guys (Denman Expert specifically ) helped me repair my kenmore gas dryer recently so I know you guys are really good! A written step by step would be greatly appreciated and any specific things to know much appreciated!

Thanks so much in advance.

Paul

Thanks so much denman. I will take a careful read of the owner's manual and if I have questions I will post them to you. again, this is great. Thank You!

So Denman I have read the manual for removing the heating element and limiter and just wanted to check with you; since the heating element starts to heat up but at high heat it starts clicking every second, does this sound like it is the limiter that has gone bad; I am assuming the clicking is the limiter contacts opening and closing repeatedly.

Thanks for any thoughts. Paul

Could be the element limiter but may also be the infinite switch.

Try to isolate where the clicking is coming from.

The only way to confirm which it is is to do a live test and then check across the element for voltage.
If the voltage is constant but the element is turning on/off then it is the limiter.
If the voltage is turning on/off then it is the infinite switch.

You have to be very careful if you do the above as you are messing with 240 volts which is lethal.

NOTE:
You did not say if the problem occurs at all heat settings or just when on high.
It may be that the infinite switch is not regulating the heat and that the element limiter is doing what it it is supposed to.
If the element starts clicking on all heat settings then I would say that this is the problem. You would see the element go bright red and then the clicking would start no matter where the infinite switch is set.
My gut says this is the most likely cause.

Now here is the kicker.
If you look at the infinite switch (item 7 in section 02) you will see that they all have to be replaced along with the wiring harness as a kit. This will make the job more complicated/difficult.

Also read the Q&A for this part.
The video applies if just a switch needs replacing.

Hi Denman:

Thanks so much; I just did a little experiment and it does indeed sound like the sound is coming from right behind the knob where the infinite switch is; once it was heated up for a while even on medium heat I could hear it click on and click off every time it would glow red and then stop glowing red, again the click was right behind the knob and I could fell a slight vibration in the knob with the click. Thanks so much. I will read up on infinite switch replacement along with wiring harness and if you know of a specific video, please post it. I owe you a beer some time for your brilliant insights. As a professional scientist of 25 years, I have an excellent bullshit detector, and you are a no bullshit dude! Thanks again. Paul

One Last Question Denman"

SO if I buy the infinite switches and wiring harness for 150.00 from Sears, can't I just replace the one inifinte switch that has gone bad, as indicated in the Kitchen Aid Manual--this way I avoid the complicated replacement of all the wiring and all the infinite switches. I am just wondering why you would need to replace everything if only one infinite switch has gone bad.

Thanks in advance Denman.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but I was at the lake.

Yes if the harness in the unit is the updated type then you could just replace the infinite switch.
