Most likely the problem is a bad control board because the display dims and it's a part of the control board.

What I would first suggest is that you give the controller a hard reset by unplugging the oven for a few minutes.
While it's off, you or someone you know should measure the AC output voltage at that outlet and a few other outlets in the home. I would also wonder if you've had any problems with lights dimming or blowing in your home, or if you've had any other odd electrical problems. If so, this can be symptomatic of a loose connection in your breaker box or the line coming to the home, and can be very dangerous, and even result in a fire. If you don't have your owner's manual to reset the clock, that's here. If the reset doesn't take care of it, and the line voltages are okay, then it likely is the "Electronic Clock Control Board" which you can get here. (Most suppliers accept unneeded returned items if it not damaged and returned in resaleable condition with all packing and boxes intact.) Also, there should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet tucked away inside the unit (probbaly behind the control panel assembly) which is very handy when troubleshooitng. If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here. Good luck. |

Here is a service manual
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Servic...LE/8178007.pdf I have to agree with Gene that the display dimming is an indication that the control board is shot. There are capacitors on the board that provide power to the display, they have a tendency to leak internally, this reduces the voltage to the display, dimming it. The error says it is a keypad drive line error so it may be worthwhile trying the following: Unplug the unit Open it up Remove the ribbon cable from the keypad to the control board at the control board. Clean the edge connector. If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive. Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here. Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates. Reconnect everything and give it a try. Another possibility (long shot) would be the Control Power Transformer is not providing enough voltage out. This can happen if the secondary winding is partially shorted internally. Unfortunately they only give the winding resistance and not the output voltage, perhaps this is marked on the transformer.
