My Jenn Air oven has recently begun shutting itself off while baking. It is an older oven but has been problem free since we got it.
Everything is working fine on the control panel. We aren't getting any error codes.
When it shuts itself off while baking, it can sometimes be restarted right away. Other times, you have to wait a few hours before the bake button on the panel will work again. And then the oven works fine until it shuts itself off.
Technician came to house, listened to oven and said that it needs a new cooling fan. Then he left. I agree that you can't hear a fan when in baking mode, BUT I think I can hear the fan when broiling. I don't think he listened to it while it was broiling. I called the company back with this information and the technician says that if the fan is working during broiling but not during baking then we need a new membrane. I looked it up and the membrane seems to be related to problems with the control panel but our control panel seems to be working just fine.
I have already spent $100 on the first service call. I am now looking at another service call plus one of two parts - a cooling fan for $200 or a membrane for $225.
Help would be appreciated - 1) Does this sound like a problem with the cooling fan ? 2) Does this sound like a problem with the membrane ? 3) Is it worth fixing this on my 13 year old oven (that has been problem free until now) ?
Thanks very much.
