Hi there,

I have a problem with my hot cooktop light always staying on. Although it is not completely on, and shining bright like it would be if the cooking top was actually hot, its still on which is really annoying. I have checked the back for any loose connections but there are none to be found ! Please help!

Default hot cooktop

the hot indicator lite is activated when the sensor that is part of the element gets hot and closes its contacts. one of the units has the contacts stuck closed. to find which one, raise the top and unplug one unit at a time until the lite goes out. you will need to replace that unit. unplug range, pull wire off unit, plug back in. repeat this until you isolate the right unit.

thank you scott for your quick reply! im not exactly sure how to actually raise the top of the unit, do you have any general tips of what bolts am i looking for to unscrew or what do i need to do ?

also quick question;

after finding the faulty sensor, where could i buy one from and can this problem lead to any bigger problems? do you know any reasons of why it happens ?

Thank you !

Default hot lite

open the oven door and look up at the top, there are 4 screws that hold the top down. take those out and raise top from the front. use 1/4 inch socket or nutdriver.

the sensor is part of the surface unit so you have to buy the whole assembly.

there are contacts in the sensor that open and close and sometimes can become stuck. as far as causing additional damage? no, it can be left alone and the lite just burn

Thank you again for responding Scott,

I was able to open the top, and I checked all of the wires for any damage. They all seem fine so I checked to see if they are all plugged in and it seemed so. After that I put everything back together and I believe the light (hot cooktop light) is now a little bit brighter (although it may not be, it kinda seems so).

I managed to also take a couple of pics that could maybe help (sorry for the terrible camera)

p.s. the first photo is on the back of the panel, where the light is. The other two are pictures of the raised cooktop.

Default cooktop lite

o.k. now that you have access to the units, you will need to check one at a time.
unplug range or flip breaker. take wires off one unit and make sure they are not touching anything.
with wires on one unit still off, turn power back on to the range.
if the light went out, it is that unit that is bad. if not, that unit is good and you can plug the wires back on and repeat these steps on each unit until the lite goes out.

ALWAYS REMEMBER TO TURN POWER OFF TO RANGE WHEN UNPLUGGING AND PLUGGING THE WIRES BACK ON UNIT

ALWAYS MAKE SURE WHEN YOU UNPLUG THE WIRES THAT THEY DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING WHEN YOU PLUG THE UNIT BACK IN.

remember, you need to check one unit at a time to determine which one is keeping the lite on
