When I select the "Proof / Keep warm" setting on the control, the top element comes on and the temperature just keeps getting higher and higher.

Your model number is missing a bunch of alphanumerics at the end (probably 5 or so characters).

I therefore cannot find any tech info on it.
Please check it.

Denman, I located the full model number

KFDRP407HSS11

I have been told by a local appliance repair shop that it is not possible to test the control panel for proper operation other than replacing it and seeing what happens. It was suggested that the two items to be replaced are
4452443 control module
9759149 electronic control
It was also suggested that the oven door seal could be allowing heat to escape and overheating the control module. Your thoughts please.

Here are your parts
Parts for Whirlpool KDRP407HSS11 Range - AppliancePartsPros.com

See the attachment for the tech sheet

Have you tried unplugging the unit to see if this problem will clear?
Perhaps the unit is just confused.

Since all other functions are OK I would say that the control board is toast.
