I have a GE Model JGP945WEK2WW cooktop. Last week, the burner I was using just quit working -- like someone had shut the gas off. The other gas appliances are okay, and the gas company came out and there is gas at the dirt-leg within the normal pressures for our community. There is absolutely no gas at the burners -- no gas smell, no gas to be ignited by the automatic sparker (that works), if you hold a match next to the burner, the flame does not even bend even a tiny amount, so I assume that no gas is getting through. The gas regulator was installed horizontally, which the man from the gas company said could be the issue. He said that dirt might have been blown by the dirt leg and because the regulator is installed horizontally, it can not fall out of the way when the gas pressure is neutralized in the pipe when the stovetop burners are turned off. However, I now realize after viewing the on-line parts manual that the safety shut-off valve is suppose to turn off the gas (with a valve section) and also enable the buzzer (with the switch portion). This gas valve has never turned the gas off to the burners -- it only makes the buzzer sound, but gas could still be turned on with one of the gas valves and would continue forever. The cook top has always been very slow -- as if starved for gas. A 6-quart pan of water for pasta took at least 20 minutes to boil. I am suspicious that either the gas safety valve (which apparently never worked right) might have failed in the "OFF" position OR the regulator is not working right OR both. Can you give any advice?

Hello,

You have to verify presence of the gas before and after the gas shut off valve.

If there is no gas before the gas shut off valve then it is responsibility of the gas company.

If there is gas after the gas shut off valve (when it's open), replace the cooktop pressure regulator.

Part number: WB19T10078
