I need help to make sure I don't screw this up.
Here's what happened. Turned the oven on after preheat turned on the timer and set. few seconds later a loud pop, circuit breaker popped and black smoke from the back. Reset the breaker, plugged it back in and heard small popping/ burning noise. Unplugged unit and saw that the control panel had burnt badly. I ordered the control panel.
I just need to know if I need to check some other part that could have caused this?

You may want to pull the range out of the wall, remove the rear panels and check all wires.

Yeah I checked all wires and everything looks good. Removed the rear panels all connections are good.No sign of any other burns.

Check both heating elements for continuity across their terminals and between each terminal and the ground. If there is nothing wrong, install the new control board and give it a try.

Thanks Gene, I was not able to check for continuity yet. What readings should I get?
Also I got the control board #316207620 and put it on. Now I am getting a code (F-6) and the burner shuts down. I haven't tried the oven yet. I will try again tomorrow after I check the continuity on the elements.

The readings suppose to be between 15 Ohms to maybe 40 Ohms.

What is the complete model number of the range?

The Model # is (PLEF398CCC)
I checked for continuity and found none between the terminals and terminals to ground. The oven works and at least the bottom element got hot. It's just the stove top. Once turned on it heats up for maybe 5 seconds and then the fault code (F-6) comes on and it shuts down. I have checked the three wire terminal (P-4) it fits only one way. Unless the board went bad as well.???

On which element it was no continuity between the terminals?

The "F6" error code means "Communication break between Power board and Oven control". Assuming the oven control board is new and there is nothing wrong with the wire harness connections, the problem is a bad power (relay) board.

After installing the new "Power Board" I keep getting the same code (F6) so I ordered another "Man Panel" and that took care of it. looks like I had a defective part.
