One day last week we noticed that the control panel was blank and whatever button was pushed only produced a beep. We called a repairman who came in and said we needed a new control panel. I have been reading your forums and figured out he may be correct. Unfortunately the control panel is a discontinued part, and he he could not get one. The repairman offered to rig the oven by installing two dials to at least give us a working oven, but my husband told him we would think about it. This morning, there were two codes displayed on the panel, E5 and F2. I just pushed the start button and the codes disappeared. I pushed the upper oven button and the oven came on and heated up. I tried the lower oven, and it too is working. The panel is still blank so I am thinking that maybe it is going out but works intermittently. We checked with a local authorized Whirlpool dealer, and they just happen to have several of the discontinued control panels in stock. Is there anything else to check before we replace this $270 part? I know there is something wrong with the panel but does it need replacing? Thanks for your help!

Before we will proceed further I would like to make clear which part we are talking about.

The control panel is the part with the keypads on it.

The control board is the electronic part which controls all functions of the oven including the display.

When you said "...was blank...", I'm assuming you did mean the display? So after the display was blank for a few days, all of the sudden it did show some error code? Is this correct?

Sorry my use of terminology was not more specific. The control panel with a keypad which displays, oven temperature, time, etc., is completely blank, and as I suspected, even though it came back on that one day, it is out again. I am concluding that this means we need a control board so that the control panel will function again-Control Board Part #8302967. I just wanted to make sure I did not overlook something else before ordering this expensive part. I think my husband went ahead and ordered it since it is a discontinued part (Even your website shows the part as unavailable) and the particular parts supplier he found has a limited quantity on hand. Is there some other possible problem we are overlooking in trying to get this oven working again? If it is not the contol board, are there other things to consider?

You are welcome. Looks like you are on the right track and hopefully it will fix the problem. There is only one thing you may want to do before you'll order this expensive part - make sure it comes with some reasonable warranty.
