Model Number: JGS968SHSS Brand: GE Age: 5 - 10 years
I have a GE Profile oven and recently the oven stopped heating; in fact, it was working and while baking, I found it had cooled to 100F and now it no longer heats.
- Broiler is functional; - Control pad seems normal; - 4-hour clean cycle works; oven gets v. hot; - On Bake + Convection, the internal fan (inside the oven on the back plate) doesn't seem to come on - But there is a fan somewhere that seems to turn on when I press start I was trying to find a service manual and wondering whether there is a thermal protector that might have malfunctioned. Any helpful suggestions about how to troubleshoot are very gratefully received! If I cannot figure it out, I am prepared to call a technician, but thought I'd give this forum a whirl! Thanks for your help! Ads By Google Related Models |

Hello,
Does the Bake igniter glow? If it does not, check for 120 VAC to the igniter while the control calls for Bake and post the results. If it does then most likely the igniter itself is bad (weak). You can verify it by measuring the current drawn by the igniter. If the reading is 3.2 amps or less, replace the igniter. - The igniter Part number: WB13T10045 You missed one digit between "SH" and "SS" in the model number. Gene.

Hi Gene,
Many thanks for taking the time to reply. The model number should have read: JGS968S0H6SS. I'm guessing that the igniter sits beneath the floor panel. I tried to slide that panel out but it looks like I must remove the door to allow the floor panel to slide out, forwards. Does that sound correct? If yes, can you please advise how I remove the door? I see a couple of screws on each side of it. Thank you! |

Hi Gene,
Great information - again, many thanks. I'm getting 120V AC to the igniter. The igniter is getting red hot, not white hot. I actually removed the assembly and then put it back in again. After about 45 seconds, the burner did suddenly ignite after I placed the assembly back in the oven again. I'm thinking that my igniter is weak and on the way out. Does that sound right to you? I would have measured the current, but my little voltmeter only has a V and resistance setting. Cheers! |

You are welcome. You are on the right track. I'm sure the new igniter will fix it.
Gene.
