Problem with a Thermador range/oven
Model Number: RDD30SVR Brand: Thermador Age: More than 10 years
I am helping a friend with her Thermador range/oven. It is Gas and Electric. The original problems were the left side burners had quit working and the LED display was so dim it was useless for any function except for using the convection portion which is how she cooked Thanksgiving Dinner with that and the two right side burners.
Being in electronics repair for more than 30 years I felt pretty confident I could at least get anything electrical or electronic in nature so I suggested we replace the LED display and found a parts place online and received the new part.
Taking the front assembly apart was rather straight forward and the directions even included to be easy when doing so as the potentiometers on the left side (simmer control) would be damaged. Well there was no need since I could see they were already broken at the top of the pot assembly, these assemblies were obsolete and had been replaced by newer ones but you needed to replace the simmer control module as well so we ordered this part which came with the newer upgraded potentiometers and I installed everything and we turned the gas and electricity back on.
Here is where the problem came, everything worked, i.e. the burners all lit, the oven and convection worked, clocks, timer, temperature controls and pilot on light but the ignitors would not stop clicking and the burner/oven indicator lamp stays illuminated. You can turn the left rear burner on and the ignitors stop clicking but if the left burner is off none of the other burners will stop the clicking, I should have mentioned all 4 click at the same time.
Currently I have sequence channel 1 and 2 disconnected from the simmer control module and this gives her the right side burners/oven and convection oven but the left side burners are not functioning due to the sequence channels being disconnected. I think the rear burner solenoid is malfunctioning but due to the way it is wired via plugs I can't simply move the problem from the left rear to the left right burner and was wondering if there was another way to troubleshoot this last part since I would love to give her a fully functional range/oven again, thanks in advance.
