Oven Repair (including Ranges and Cooktops)

I ordered and received a new burner for an electric stove, Part numberAP3844901. When I went to install the element, I noticed that the clearcovering on the metal rod that extends through the middle of the element wasslightly cracked/distressed along +/-1.5" of the rod length. Being thisclose to Christmas and needing the stove I made the decision to install theelement and it seems to be working fine. I just wanted to check with an expertand make sure that this is not a big deal (I'm guesssing that the metal rod isa thermostat?). Should I return this or do you think it will be OK?

Hello,

This part of the heating element is a safety limiter which senses the temperature and cycling the heat on and off to prevent the glass from the overheating and breakage. I would recommend to exchange it.
