I have a Maytag oven I bought three years ago at Home Depot. It has worked fine until today. The top burners still work but not the oven part. The bake is flashing. I tried unplugging it for 10 minutes and still same thing. The oven will not heat. We live out in the middle of nowhere and I need help. I hate to throw this thing away. Any tests I can check myself. I am a mechanic and know how to use a meter. Thanks for any tips. TP

Hi.

You sad that bake is flashing. Do you mean that control board wont turn the bake on after you dialed in the temperature and pressed start?
If that the case - replace the control board

Thanks Simon. I think what you explained is what mine is doing. When I press bake then the temp I want and punch bake again it should go to preheat. It stays on the temperature I programmed it and never comes on. We had a lighting strike real close to my house today. We were home and the power went off for a second. Nothing else in our house was bothered. The clock works on the oven but I think you are correct about the board being the problem. I did not pay but a few dollars more for the oven than the one part you showed would cost. Also we have not even used the bake part of the oven since Thanksgiving. The lightning strike may have not been the problem but I can tell you it made me jump out of my chair. I had three computers running when the lightning hit and all thank goodness are OK.TP

One more thing.

Are you sure that you need to press the BAKE again after the temperature has been set? See what happens if you do not press it the second time.

Same thing Simon. I can set it to say 300f and just wait and it shows the bake light blinking and no heat from oven. It used to go to preheat but now stays on what you set it on and again the bake light blinks. I think the board is fried?? like you mentioned. Probably had a surge today but not sure because we have not used this oven since Thanksgiving. TP

I would buy the part but how can I guarantee it will not happen again? I know from working on computers for 15 years when board goes out there is usually something that causes it like a defective power supply or lighting strikes. I removed the control panel on this range and looked at it close. I see nothing wrong with it. The inside of the oven still looks new. I bet we have not used this thing 15 times for cooking on the inside. Most of the time we use the top of range for cooking. The oven I traded in when I bought this one was at least 50 years old and was still working. I wish I had it back. I do not want any electric range with circuit boards. Is that possible today? You probably still can get the very basic range without the relay control board. The thermostat operating oven.

I know you are getting tired of me asking questions but I have one more. Is threre a way to test the control board to be 100% that is the problem? I know that is a longshot but thought I would ask anyway. Thanks again for your help on this. Tom
