Model Number: JDS26BOW2WH Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
I have an old drop in oven. The bake element burned in two. When I went to replace it I checked the power and the red (left) wire had 120 volts. The right wire did not. When I pushed bake and retested they both were hot and I got 240. Is that right????

Sounds correct to me.
I am assuming that the 120 volts you saw was referenced to Neutral/ground and the 240 you saw was across the element. On many units one side of the element is always connected to one side of the line so always has 120 volts on it when referenced to Neutral. This is why it is very important to remove power from the unit when replacing an element. Then when the control relay closes the other side of the line is connected to the element giving 240 volts across the element.
