Default Gas valve shorted?

I measure zero volts across the valve terminals, even though the ignitor is glowing white hot. Could this be because there is a short in the gas valve? I removed the leads from the ignitor, and see just one ohm across the terminals. How can I definitely test the valve before ordering a replacement?

This is not right place where to measure the voltage to the igniter. You have to do it at the same connections where the igniter wires were connected to and the oven control must be on at that time.

BTW, the complete model number of the oven is needed for more accurate advise.

Gene, thank you so much for your reply! This problem is driving me crazy. The range is Kenmore 790.71202704. When the oven stopped working, I saw that the igniter was glowing a dull yellow. I replaced it, now I see a white-hot glow, but the oven still does not light. The top burners work fine.

Make sure the gas shut off handle (shown on the left side of the following picture) for the oven on the gas pressure regulator is On.

Slightly tap on the gas valve while the igniter is glowing. If the gas will start to flow, replace the gas safety valve.

- The gas valve Part number: 3203459

Part number: 3203459
