Model Number: CRE9800C Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
Problem w/ Maytag oven's interia light
Recently the bulb burned out on our ten year old Maytag oven not sure of the exact model the owner's manuel has all these listed CRE9800C,CRE9600C,CHE9800B &CFE9000B. I hate to amit this initialley I did'nt know how to remove this bulb and I did'nt turn off the breaker panel for oven (I know stupid mistake). I removed the screws holding the light socket and pulled out the socket from the backplane of oven when doing this there was a spark and this turned off the breaker. I now know the correct way of removing the light bulb cover it just screws off(actualley I tryed removing this cover first it was on there very tight and was concerned that I may break the cover so I decided to unscrew the whole socket). Now I have a new bulb and it stays on even w/ oven door closed even w/ the switch on front of oven off bulb just stays on. W/ socket removed from oven I checked the continuity of the socket's two terminals and have good continuity. Any tips is appreciated. Hi STB,
The correct and complete model number is very important. Hopefully the Model Number Locator will help you to find it. Gene.

Gene yes I removed the wires from the socket and have continuitiy probablley ruined the socket when the hot wires contacted the backplane of the oven.
I looked at the locations for the model # still can't find the model # printed on the oven. I can remove the socket and take a image of the socket w/ this image can you provide a part # so I can order a replacment socket? Thanks STB |

having no continutiy w/out bulb makes sense I bet w/ a bulb and a good socket there will be continunity? I looked at the locations for the model # still can't find the model # printed on the oven. I'm afraid that the major problem caused by the short in the light socket is more than the damaged light socket.
How the oven and the surface burners will work with the wires disconnected from the light socket and insulated? Check all functions of the oven. Gene.

The best solution to get the correct light socket I believe is to take the old one to a local appliance parts store.
