Default intermittent issues with the bake function
Model Number: SF362LXSQ   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

I am not sure how old this stove is; it was here when I bought the house. The stove could be more than 1-5 years old.

I have had three recent oven issues and need some advice. The first time my wife was using the oven to bake. During the count down, the oven never came on during the countdown. She later changed the setting from 350 to 400 degrees and had no further issues with the oven. The second time, I went to bake something, and realized even though the countdown was complete, the oven had never kicked on and was completely cold. Later that day, the oven worked fine with no further issues. Today (the third incident) the oven did kick on and heat up, but when my wife went to bake something the oven did not appear to be as hot as it should, and would not "cycle" on to maintain the correct temperature. The first incident happened a few months ago; the last two incidents occurred in the past few weeks.

The stove top burners all work fine. The broiler (located at the top of the oven) also seems to be working fine.

Any advice would be appreciated. I would like to repair the oven and avoid having to buy a new one, but need some direction and help in diagnosing the problem.

Thanks!

It sounds like you might need a new gas valve. To check it, you'll need an ohmmeter. Set the Ohm meter on RX100. Remove the three wires from the gas valve. The wire connectors are different sizes so they can be replaced in the same spot. The center terminal is the common terminal. Put one meter probe on the center terminal and touch one of the other terminals and then the other terminal. The meter should read 216 Ohms both times.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the gas valve; it seems to be working fine.

Other thoughts?

Thanks,

Dante

Check the oven sensor. It should read 1100 ohms at room temperature.

Thanks for the suggestion; I am not sure where this sensor is located. Also, I am assuming I test it when the oven is not in operation.

Also, have you heard of grounding issues with the DSI control for this specific appliance? I was researching the issue and it seems that this is often associated with "intermittent" type issues.

Thanks again,

Dante
