Exclamation All 4 coil elements heat too hot.
Brand: Frigidaire   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
Not sure of the model number... I didnt purchase it and Im a girl, not sure where to find it.
Whats happening is, all 4 elements are having issues.
Sometimes they all go high (they glow super bright red, more red than when I set them to high). Sometimes they will go at the right temp for a while and then shoot up to high. Sometimes they seem to only heat to low or medium low.
Its made cooking a nightmare. I have to either play musical elements until I find one that will behave for long enough to cook something or turn it on til it gets up to temp, turn it off, turn it on, turn it off..... insane right?
My father inlaw insists it is the thermostats/switches... whatever it is that controls the temp, but I wonder about the chances of ALL 4 (he says there are 4) breaking at the same time, without something more major causing it.
His plan is to replace them all ourselves... us with no electrical or technical skills.
But could it be... as I think... more serious and requiring an electrician?

Hi.

Is this the cooktop or the range?
If it's the range does the oven also acting up?
If this is only the cooktop then you most likely right - the odds that the all 4 went bad at the same time are slim to nothing.
You need to check the voltage to the cooktop (the electrician probably is a good idea) - steady 240VAC is what you need.
Just to make sure you can replace only one of the infinity switches - who knows?

If you need my help in the part search get the model number, please.

Simon.

Thanks for your answer
Its just the elements on the stove, the oven and warmer drawer seem to work fine. I was wrong about the brand... was thinking of my last oven and didnt think to look and check. I had said it was a fridgeaire, but it is actually a Westinghouse Neptune 4U602. I managed to find the manual for it, but it is very unhelpful and doesnt say much regarding the thermostat, switches or elements etc...

Hi.

So this is the combination of cooktop and oven (range)?
Or it's just the 4 burners cooktop?

Model number you provided doesn't come up. How old is this unit?

Simon.

Its an oven cooktop combo... (we call the cooktop a stove in new zealand)
Not sure exactly how old the unit is, we purchased the house (with stove/oven) 2 years ago and were told the unit was only a few months old... so less than 3 years old for sure.
I should have said I am in New Zealand... that could be why you cant come up with the model numbers.
I have managed to talk my father inlaw into getting his electrician mate to come over. Yay!
