Model Number: JGBP26GEJ4AD Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
Hi,
Oven was taking too long to light and was making occasional booms so I replaced the igniter and safety valve (parts number WB2X10016 and WB21X423). First installed the igniter to test it using the old safety valve. 1. Then I installed the new safety valve and noticed that the flame was lifting with the new safety valve installed. It was especially pronounced when I opened the oven door. The gas is LP and the orifice on the safety valve's outlet was screwed down completely as is required for LP. The regulator has been set up for LP for 25 years and was untouched. 2. With the flame spreader installed I noticed that the flame lift stopped, but there is a pop when the flame cuts off during cycling or shutdown. Flame dies out slowly as is normal then suddenly blows out near the end. It's audible. To be fair, it had been doing that for a long time. 3. Installed the old safety valve and it didn't exhibit flame lift. Reinstalled the new one and it did. The safety valve is actually a Frigidaire / Electrolux 5303208499 and is supposed to be exactly the same part as the GE WB21X423. It looks identical and is of the dual type. 4. Tried adjusting the shutter on the burner tube (It has always been in the wide open position as is customary for LP gas) , but when I close it down slightly, the flame shuts off. 5. Any ideas? 6. Although I never paid attention, when an oven is set to say 300 degrees, does the flame on the burner start and stop as the temperature in the oven climbs? That is what it does with both the old safety valve and the new one. Or is it supposed to fire continuously until it reaches the oven set temperature? Silly question I should know the answer to. Thanks for the help. Regards, John Ads By Google Related Models |
