Exclamation Oven gets too hot
Model Number: 30-3053-00-02   Brand: Tappan   Age: More than 10 years

I just purchased a oven knob from you guys because the the original one was shot. I put the new knob on and turned it to 350. I have a thermometer in the oven and when I checked it it read 400 and the flame was still on. Do I need a thermostat or could it be something else? How long do thermostats usually last?

The first thing I would do is adjust the temperature using the two screws on the other side of the knob.

Also it is very important where you placed the thermometer inside the oven when you measured the oven temperature. It must be in the middle of the oven cavity.

If the knob adjustment would not help then the oven thermostat has to be replaced.

- The part number for the oven thermostat is AP2124416

Here are the break down diagrams for the Tappan range Model 30-3053-00-02

Very neat site. In response to your answer, I have the original knob that has the numbers printed on it. Is the knob you are referring to an adjustable knob that has a sliding temperature indicator? If so I will order a new knob. I cannot find an adjustment screw on this oven control/thermostat. my stove model number is Tappan- MGF334WGSD, a gas range, about 5 years old. The oen temperature measures about 75 degrees hotter than what the knob indicates. My oven knob is molded of onw piece of plastic with the numbers printed in grey ink. Usually on every manual oven control I have ever owned in the past, there is a hollow shaft with a phillips socket that can be 'tweaked' to adjust the oven temp for more accuracy. Thanks in advance for your clarification on the knob/adjustment issue.
