Hot surface light stays on all the time

Model Number: CHE 9800 BCB Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

My first question is--Does the fact that the hot surface light stays on all the time indicate a dangerous appliance? In other words-Should I be thinking that the stove could catch fire or some other dangerous outcome because the light does not shut off?

My second question-What is causing it to stay on when the burners are cool? What do i do to work properly--shut off when burners cool?
