Old hood and cooktop, controls in hood
Model Number: jv6602 Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
Hello, I have an ancient (1970's) hood and cooktop. The hood is GE m# JV6602av. The cooktop is JP8601avi, electric. The controls for the cooktop are in the hood. I can find no info on something this old.
I am replacing the cooktop with a gas cooktop, as there is a gas hookup there also. The hood is perfectly good and I intend to keep it there. There is a huge cable thing that runs from the hood to the cooktop, that I have disconnected. The whole thing runs from a 40 amp breaker, through a very large wire.
I know how to handle many home electrical hookups for things and have rewired some parts of my house, but I am not sure about this.
Since the electric cooktop will no longer be there, could the vent hood be powered by a standard 20amp breaker and standard 12-2 w/grnd wiring? Or should I just leave that alone? Surely the hood alone doesn't need a 40amp breaker and that huge wire to power it.
If I leave that wiring as is to run the hood, is it okay to just disconnect the cable from the hood that went to the old cooktop?
Thanks.
