Model Number: CGLEF386A54 Brand: Frigidaire Age: 5 - 10 years
After completing a self clean cycle, the oven no longer works. The \lower element is dead, on convection mode the fan runs but convection element is dead, the only element that works is the broil element. the rangetop works fine. I removed the lower element it looks ok and I get a reading of about 20 ohms with the ohmeter. I don't think it is the element, does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

Here is the wiring diagram for this unit.
http://manuals.frigidaire.com/prodin.../318046706.pdf As you can see the bake and convection elements are controlled by the same repay on the control board. If the unit stays in preheat then the board is the most probable cause. If the oven shows that is is ready then the oven sensor may be the problem.

Thank you for the suggestions den man. I am trying to understand the wiring diagram. So when I turn the oven on in the bake mode and set the temp to say 350 the temp shows in the display at 100 degrees ( must be as low as it goes) I can then hear a relay cycling it will click a couple of times and then silent for a minutes and then it cycles again but the temp of coarse never goes up beyond 100. So with that can we assume that the temp sensor is ok?
When you say the board may be the problem are you talking about the complete push button control panel? Are they not repairable? I have fixed a few appliances in my day but this electronic controlled oven has got me a bit stumped. I do appreciate your expertise. Any further elaboration would be appreciated |

So with that can we assume that the temp sensor is ok?
It does sound like the oven sensor is OK since it is trying to heat up but cannot for some reason. When you say the board may be the problem are you talking about the complete push button control panel? I cannot find a parts breakdown for this unit. Some units use a control board and a control panel (keyboard). Other units use a control board/timer that has the keypad. It is the control board that is probably shot. Are they not repairable? Yes they are but getting the parts can be difficult. Also manufacturers do not publish control board schematics so troubleshooting can be difficult. In your case it is probably the bake relay on the board but may also be the electronics that control it. You could Google "appliance timer repair". There are a number of companies out there that specialize in timer repair. I have fixed a few appliances in my day but this electronic controlled oven has got me a bit stumped. I do appreciate your expertise. Any further elaboration would be appreciated

Thanks again DEN MAN for all your help. I got the number off of my oven controller and checked it out online. Of course it was the one worth $550
I did some further checking and found a timer repair place on line and I called them. They will fix it for $129. He helped me further diagnosis it and your assumptions were correct. It is the Bake Relay that has failed. I removed it and mailed it to him today and should have it back in 10 days or so. Once again thank you for your advice. |
