Model Number: JBP99TH1WW Brand: GE Age: 1 - 5 years
I would like to replace the white cooktop on my range with a black cooktop. AppParts Pros and GE has confirmed that the drop in part is available in black. In viewing the exploded diagrams, the exchange appears that it would be able to be done by a reasonably mechanically inclined person. I am also assuming that the radiant elements and their mounting bars are removable from one cooktop to be mounted on the other. I am also assuming that the hooks that support the cooktop at he back are reasonably easy to attach without extensive disassembly of the control panel. My questions are: 1. Is this job much more extensive than it appears? 2. What areas should I be particularly concerned during disassembly and re-assembly? 3. Are there small parts in addition to the cooktop that should be ordered at the same time because of likely damage during disassembly such as screws, spacers, etc.? In terms of my mechanical ability, I have replaced the eschuction (?) assembly on a GE Dishwasher. Interesting job, but everything works fine. Thank you. I will appreciate any advice that you can give me.

Mofffit the instructions are probably on the wiring diagram that came with your range. From your model it appears to be a free standing range. Remove the botom drawer and look under the range on the right ot left side panel you will probably see an envelope taped to the side or somewhere under there.
I dont know about that specific model but you typically open the oven door about 6 inches to the first stop then lift off the oven door. on some oven doors you may have to open it farther first and unsnap the door hinge latches then move the door back to that first stop and lift it up and off the hinge arms. To remove the top,if you look just below the top at the front right and left corners you will see one or 2 screws. There also maybe one in the middle along the front edge between the oven door and top. You usually remove these 2 or 4 screws and lift up on the front edge of the top about 2 inches and slide it toward you about 1 or 2 inches. Then lift it off. |
