Can find no specific info on this unit with the given info.

The temperature on my oven always runs much higher than I set the dial to.

Note that most ovens allow you to calibrate the over +/- 35 degrees

The temperature sensor is intact and in the correct place.
Sensor can look OK and still be no good. See below on how to check it.

The oven door is not what you call tightly shut, would this cause the problem?

Doubtful but if it is causing the temp sensor to get a draft and see a cooler temp than the rest of the oven it theoretically could.
