Model Number: SC8720EDB Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years
I just had the fan switch for the gas burners replaced by a pro ($179.00 total!) and when I spilled sauce on the controlpanel the other night , I shut off the stove and went to eat, leaving the mess for later. It started clicking a few seconds later, (this would be the igniter switch clicking) and I looked at it from the top but saw nothing unusual. A minute later it began clicking again. This time I saw smoke rising through the left rear burner control on the panel this time and unplugged the electrical and went back to my meal. I hope to minimize the repair bill this time. Is the problem resolved by just replacing the switch again?

You have to open the control panel to diagnose the real damage.
Besides the switch it could be a wires too. Post your findings, as much descriptive as possible. Gene.
