Model Number: JBP56GR1WH Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
When I press on "Bake" on my GE Range, and then enter a temperature, it accepts the temperature and after a moment displays "100 degrees, bake ON", as is customary. However, exactly 17 seconds since I pressed "Bake", the display clears all the baking display data, leaving just the clock time. No error codes are displayed, it looks like the range has simply canceled the "bake" without any message.
A similar things happens with "Clean" and with "Broil", they are canceled after 17 seconds, without any message, just the clock remains on the display. I tested the Oven Sensor Assembly (GE # Part number: WB21X5301 This range is 20 years old, but everything else works fine, the four burners, the clock, the timer, the range displays "door" if I lock the stove door and press "bake" (as it should), etc. I'm hoping there is a simple solution.... is it a digital range? and if it is you might want to try replacing the circuit board. if you check the schematic sheet and you could try to jump through the relayand test the bake and broil to see if the board is bad that way also.

Yes, it is a digital range. The timer/control (GE # WB27X5476) is no longer available, although I do see a used one on ******** for $90. Don't have an electrical schematic, just the parts diagrams from AppliancePartsPros, so not sure how to jump through the relay to test the bake & broil....
Another clue: if I press "bake", it first displays "bake ---" (three dashes) waiting for me to enter the temperature with the up/down arrows (as it should), if I don't enter the temperature (I don't touch anything), the range clears the "bake ---" from the display after 17 seconds. This is the correct behavior, range timing out if the user doesn't enter the temperature, and it also occurs with clean (if I don't enter the time) and broil (if I don't enter lo/hi). The fact that the problem behavior (press bake, enter temperature, range accepts temperature and displays "bake ON", then range clears display showing only the clock) occurs exactly 17 seconds after pressing bake (equivalent happens for clean/broil), the same length of time as the standard expected-user-input-not-entered timeout, makes me think there is a connection.
