Model Number: RDFS30QB Brand: Thermador Age: More than 10 years
Hi Gene,
First off, thank you very much for taking the time to speak with me on a holiday about my range problem. That was very nice of you indeed! I have confirmed that the solenoid on the front left burner is dead (no continuity on the coil). Time for a new solenoid. Hence the question. Is it possible to replace the solenoid from the top, that is, without having to lift off the burner box? I'm hoping that all I have to do is disconnect the gas hard lines, remove the screws visible on the top that hold the bracket and pull the solenoid straight up. That should expose the wires, with enough room to unplug them. If not, is there a trick to removing the burner box? There are so many screws and I'm sure not all have to come off. Thanks again, Adnan Ads By Google Related Models |

Hi Adnan,
Before you replace the solenoid perform the troubleshooting as described in the attached file. You do not have to do anything with the burner box. Just remove the top panel. Be sure to observe the gas flow direction markings on the new valve when you install it. - The solenoid Part number: AP2828839 - The simmer controller kit Part number: AP3672574 Here are the breakdown diagrams for the Thermador duel fuel range Model RDFS30 Gene.

Thanks Gene. However, if the solenoid shows as open, doesn't that pretty much say the solenoid is the problem (or the wire leading to the solenoid but that's not too likely)? I checked the other solenoid just to be sure and it reads 2k ohms.

Open solenoid means bad solenoid. The only question is: how good is your meter? If you are sure the readings are correct then replace the solenoid.
Gene.

Gene,
I have placed my order for the new solenoid as I have run all your tests and that is the bad part. Might be a silly question, but I assume I have to turn off the gas to replace the solenoid, correct? Thanks, Ross |

Ross,
It's always a good idea to turn off gas and power before you work with any appliance. Gene.
