Default cooktop igniters
Brand: Frigidaire   Age: 1 - 5 years

the right front igniter on my Fridgedaire cooktop model GLGC30S8CSB will not work. It is a sealed cooktop. All other igniters show a spark but not this one. How can I determine the problem and can the igniter be replaced?

Thanks

Oops. My bad. Sorry about that Bob.

Let's clarify something first. What happens when you turn on the right front burner control knob? Do any igniters begin to spark? If not, then the problem is probably with the igniter switch located on the burner valve (right behind the knob). Even though you would only need one switch, for some reason Frigidaire decided to sell it as a complete harness kit with all 4 switches - direct link if you need it. Now, if when you turn the right front burner knob and all igniters click but the right front igniter, read on:

It could either be the igniter or the spark module. Both can be replaced. Visually inspect the igniter, and if you see any cracks in the ceramic, replace it. If not, you can switch your right front igniter with one from a different burner, let's say left front. With the igniters switched, if your right front burner begins to function normally, then the problem is with the igniter. If it still doesn't work, then most likely it's the spark module.

- Spark igniter for your model
- Spark module for your model

Let me know if you have questions or what the outcome is.

Thanks for the information. When I trun on the right
front burner other igniters spark but the right front
one does not. I changed the igniter from the front
right with the front left, and when I did the one that
I changed from the front left to the front right did
not spark ont the front right, and the igniter that
would not spark on the front right now sparks on the
front left. It sounds like I need a new module - do
you agree?

Sounds like the spark module to me. The spark switch is ok, since other igniters do work when you turn on the right front burner knob. The igniter is also ok, you've checked that. You can also check the wire that goes from the spark module to the right front burner igniter to make sure both ends are plugged in and the wire has no breaks in it, but I'm pretty sure you're looking at replacing the spark module.

- Replacement spark module for your model.

When replacing the spark module, unplug the power to the cooktop and make sure to note which wire goes where first. The spark module is located in the right front corner, between the control panel and the right front burner. You may have to remove the top glass if you cannot access the module by removing the right front drip pan and burner. Not a complicated job, maybe a little time consuming if the top has to be removed (be careful with the glass).
