Hi I'm new. I had this problem as well. I have a GE Profile JGP933 gas cooktop. My sister-in-law came and cooked. She proceeded to spill things. After she cleaned it up, all four igniters continued to spark. Eventually they dried out and stopped. However, now one burner won't spark at all. The gas is ok because I can smell it. What could be the problem?

With some troubleshooting, I found that the electrode on that burner is fine. When I twist the knob to LITE on any of the other burners to get it sparking, the bad burner will light and I can see it spark.
So the issue is in the knob somewhere. It's not sending the signal to the igniter... |

debaire,
The problem with your stove is a bad ignition switch located under the knob. You can find the complete model on the bottom panel. Look from inside of the cabinet. Gene.

Gene, thanks for the input. It's a cooktop and sits on top of the oven. I believe it's somehow harnessed to the oven below. I've tried to look under the portion I can get up and out and it doesn't have the necessary information. Is the exact model number necessary? From checking on the GE site, it seems the differences are in color.

It is not possible to find the right part without the complete model number. If the cooktop is gas and the oven is electric - they must be wired separate. Looks like you have to remove the oven from the cabinet to get the complete model number of the cooktop.
Gene.

hi gene,
I just bought a used KitchenAid Superba Model KGRT507GBL0. The first day everything worked fine and then this morning one of the burners is continuing to spark even after it is lit(the other burners spark as well when that particular burner is turned on). They continue to spark even if all the other burners are lit. I tried to dry it out to no avail. I read your other replies and took apart the control panel and removed the purple wire to the ignitor switch to that particuar burner. This eliminated the problem, but the problem burner now has to be lit be match. What does this mean? Is the problem with the ignitor switch by the knob or is the burner not sensing that it is lit? |

The first thing I would do is check if the burner cap is in the right position and all burner parts are dry and clean.
If this is not the issue then the ignition switch has to be replaced. - The part number for the ignition switch is AP2994649 Here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid range Model KGRT507GBL0 Gene.

Re: GE Cooktop JPG963SEJ1SS
Got it wet 5 days ago. It is still sparking at all burners. I do not have a tool (special screw driver) to remove the burners to try to dry it quicker. Thought about trying a hair dryer. Should I wait a few more days? Will it eventually dry out? Thank You |
