On preheating my oven to 400 degrees, a white hot flame, like one associated with welding, about 4 inches high sparked on the right side of the lower element. I pressed cancel to turn off the oven. The flame continued to travel along the element toward the front of the oven. I flipped of the breaker to the appliance and the flame died. After cooling the element broke where the flame had started and a spiral pattern was etched into the element. Is this just a common element burnout or something more serious?
