Turning the gas knob to ignite the burner creates a 'pop' sound, a puff of smoke comes out of one of the burners and the breaker trips. and of course the burner does not ignite. Any ideas what is causing this and what the remedy is?
thank you,

Very likely one (or more) of the ignition switches is shorted out.

Unplug the power cord. Remove the knobs and the control panel and inspect the ignition switches.
