Model Number: cmt227nw Brand: Thermador Age: More than 10 years
My upper oven was showing an E4 code when I had a service tech. come out (obviously before I found this site), I was told I needed to have my control board rebuilt(model is discontinued). I could not afford to have it repaired so I just use the lower oven. I decided to try it again after a year and it showed an E8 code (the microwave still works fine). I just now tried it again for the heck of it and the darn thing is WORKING GREAT!!!! Does this sound like a sensor problem or a control board problem? (please let it be a sensor problem!!!!) I'm hoping this will be something I can fix myself. Any suggestions?

usually not both... need to ohm out sensor at the board .. i think it is a 9 pin connector and there are two wires that come from the connector to the sensor .. should get 1080 ohms at room temperature... then, check from each leg of the sensor to chassis ground.. you should NOT get any continuity.. if you do, then it is definitely a bad sensor .. Also check the wires to make sure neither of them are PINCHED !!!! most often, a bad board is always a bad board.. usually not intermittent..
