After baking at 350 degrees, I changed the temp to 425 degrees to bake additional item. after sounding like the temp was going to go up, the oven stopped working. Controls and stove top work fine. I can set to bake but oven never heats up. I checket temp sensor and oven element and both seem fine. Broile element is broken (we never use broiler). What else can it be and how can I check it with my multimeter. Also, I don't have a wiring diagram for it.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for Maytag MER5755QAS RANGE- S/C F/S ELE | AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the wiring diagram. You will see a hi-limit switch in the wiring to the elements. I believe this is Item 18 in Section 1 of the parts. Unplug the unit and one wire to the hi-limit and measure it, it should be 0 ohms. Note: this was removed on some newer units (serial number prefix 15 and higher). Also I find it strange that you have not seen other problems with the oven. I am not 100% sure about this but most units switch back and forth between the bake and broil elements when in preheat and bake modes. This speeds up preheat and provides a more even temperature profile in the oven during bake. You said that the broil element is broken, if this is a physical break then I would replace it. It is dangerous like this, also if it should short to the oven chassis it will probably blow your control board. |

My oven definitely does not have a high limit switch. I checked resistance on the oven element and it reads 16 ohms. When I check voltage, I get nothing. When I checked the broil element, resistance is infinity and voltage is 0.
Could there be something with the board? I plan on replacing both elements. The thing that puzzles me is I don't get any voltage going through elements. Do I need to activate the bake option to get volts going through?

Do I need to activate the bake option to get volts going through?[/COLOR] You must have the unit in bake to get voltage to the bake element. Note: I probably switches back and forth between bake and broil. To check the broil voltage the unit must be in broil. Be very careful as you are measuring 240 volts and that is lethal. FYI: You do not get voltage trough the element. It is like the pressure on a hose but pushes electrons instead of water. The current (amperage or amps) that flows through the element. The resistance is just the resistance to the flow of electrons. Your bake element is probably OK. 240 volts divided by 16 ohms would give a current of 15 amps. Another thing to check is if the unit has a preheat indication to be sure it is in preheat. If the unit shows that it is already up to temperature then it could be an oven sensor problem. I'm hoping the control board is fine. Regarding the broil element being damaged, would this result in my oven not working?
If I replace the broil element, would this make the oven work...Are the oven and broil elements in series when the oven is activated?

Also, my oven does not have a thermal limiter switch. Serial pre-fix is 16.

I do not think so.
I think that it would just cause the unit to take longer to pre-heat and it would have problems maintaining an even oven temperature is the bake mode.

I think that what they do is switch back and forth between the elements and do not have them both on at the same time.
Have you checked the oven sensor?
If you have then you have done some troubleshooting and you may want to get your board from AppliancePartsPros.
I believe they will let you return the board if it does not fix your problem, see their return policy. |
