Default Gas Range Won't Shut Off

Hi,
I came home from work today and found my Maytag Gas Oven was ON even thought the thermostat knob was set to OFF. I turned the knob to its maximum ON position then back to off and the oven turned off for about two minutes and then relit while still in the off position. I did this several times and every time the oven went off, but only stayed off for several minutes before turning back on even thought the thermostat knob was off. The only way to get it to stay off was to unplug it. I am guessing I need to replace the thermostat, does this sound correct or could something else be wrong.

You need to contact Maytag at 1 (800) 344-1274 about this issue.

I will contact Maytag. Am I on the right track thinking the thermostat has failed?
