My wife spilled sme water into one burner control, this was followed by smoke and sparking and a now dead control. Can I repair this and waht part do I need?

I have come to the conclusion that the switch is dead, how do I remove the switch, does the bezel snap off (that part that the controls knobs sit on and looks like a cover with the on/off markings ) or does the switch come out from underneath the cook top assembly?

The switch straddles the control post on the burner valve. It is accessed from inside the unit.

Thank you. Now, how do I access the switch, do I have to remove the control panel and if so how does that come off, is it double sided tape attached or held in some other manner?

Here's a parts breakdown. Replacement parts for GE JGP328BEC1BB | AppliancePartsPros.comYou should be able to lift the unit out of the counter cutout. There may be a double sided tape or some sort of self sticking foam gasket to seal the gaps in the installation. Once you have it out, just rotate it a few degrees and it should sit on top of the counter well enough to disassemble it. Remember to remove the burner diffusers so the top will come off without putting any stress on the aluminum gas lines. Turn off the gas at the source and throw the breaker or unplug it before working on the switches.

Thanks, I was afraid I was going to have to pull the entire assembly out to do any work and that apprears to be the case.

It's not as tricky as you might imagine. You can do it...You just have to remain organized and SAFE.
