Model Number: JGP640 ES1BG Brand: GE Age: More than 10 years
Hello, I'm having trouble with GE Profile cooktop. The cooktop can work fine for days & weeks at a time, and then for unknown reasons, I'll go to use it, and none of the four ignitors work (I hear no clicking). I'll come back a day later and turn one of the burner knobs, and low & behold, everything is fine again, ie, I can turn on any of the burners and they ignite instantly.
I have blue sparks on all 4 burners. The burner switches seem ok. There is no crud beneath the flame spreader. I tried unplugging and plugging the cooktop, but that did not help. There is no moisture that I can tell. There were no spills. I did try using a hair dryer to make sure all moisture was eliminated. What could cause such an random, intermittent problem? I have the exact same problem but my model is a JGB902CEH2CC. I have replaced the spark module and that did not cure the problem. I have removed the cooktop, check the continuity of the burner switches and they checked fine. One thing I noticed,on any parts diagram for this model, it shows a single burner switch as a replacement. Whats really in my range is a harness type assembly which looks like all four of those burner switches need replaced as a unit. No such part seems to exist for this model. You really can't cut and splice. I also have on order 4 new ignitors and hope this solves the problem. Quite disapointed with all these problems with GE in a range thats less that 5 years old. Apparently
I not alone. There really isn't anything else in the loop. Burner switches supply 120 volts to spark module, module outputs to igniters, and burner bases provide the ground. Any help would be appreciated. |
