Default Thermador Gas Cook Top, XLo burners inop
Model Number: GGS30 / SGS30   Brand: Thermador   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
My thermador cook top (GGS30 / SGS30 ) has 4 burners.

THe 2 with XLo ( turn off & on) are not working. No spark, no gas.

I have looked at wiring diagrams, and i am guessing either the

SPARK MODULE ( AP3672547) or
GAS SIMMER CONTROLLER ( AP3672547 )

need to be replaced.

Has anyone else ever replaced either of these ?

Is it difficult ( special tools needed) ?

Thanks
Tom

not a difficult repair as long as your main top comes off easily enough ... if you order the simmer controller it will probably come with 2 new potentiometers which should resolve your problem ...

Hello again ...

I tried to get the cooktop apart. There are some metal tabs which I had to bend straight, and this allowed the metal enclosure to be seperated from the glass top. This allowed me to look into the space, but it would not come apart. However, it looks like I need to disconnect all four (4) of the main burners with a nut accessible from the top. This looks to be a 19 or 20 mm metrics brass nut. I do not have this size. I did try to loosen a little with an adjustable wrench, however, they do not want to budge. ( I assume they are on really tight from the heat and all).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get these nuts off so I can change the controller ?

Thanks in advance, Tom

this is a very common problem... you really need to drill out these brass pieces ( which are called VENTURI's and they screw into these cast aluminum pieces called Jet Holders...

Wow, drill them out. ( !?)

OK - I guess being that they are brass, that shouldn't be too difficult to do.

I assume I will need to buy 4 new ones then.

thanks for advice
Tom

yes, at your local hardware store you can buy a pyramidial shaped drill bit... you just need to drill the flange of the venturi down... you will need to order any of the venturis and jet holders that you drill out , as well as whatever controller you need ... really not too difficult, with a little practice and experience. take your time, you'll do fine...

So How did you make out?? I also have a Thermador gas cook top about 18 years old now. When you turn the burner on , only get gas and no spark. I suspect the spark module. Is there any way of testing it first??

what is the m# of the 18 yr old cooktop ? if you turn the burner on that does not spark and then turn on another burner at the same time, does that burner that "does not work" suddenly spark and ignite ?

The model # is GG 30. The first burner turned on will not spark , nor will any subsequent burner try igniting. Only gas flows. I have manualy lit one burner and then tried turing another burner on and it still will not spark.

if NONE of the burners spark, more than likely you do have a bad spark module ... if some of the burners spark, you just may have a bad electrode... if you turn on the bad burner and no spark, but while the gas is coming out ( QUICKLY ) turn on another burner and if the "bad burner" suddely ignites, then you may just have a bad valve switch...
