While baking the other day, my wife reported that the oven was on fire. Sure enough, the baking element was glowing and sparking like a fuse. She turned the oven off but the element continued to glow. I turned off the breaker and the glow died immediately. I have ordered a replacement element from AppliancePartsPros.com. Thinking we could use the cooktop while we wait a few days for the oven element, I tried to turn the breaker back on. It trips immediately as if there was a dead short in the stove. I have removed the old element and isolated the leads coming from the back of the oven. Do you have to have an element installed in the oven in order to use the stove? Where would I look for a short? Could the element have caused some other damage?
