Model Number: MEF356BFWA Brand: Frigidaire Age: 5 - 10 years
Hi,
I was having an issue with my oven. If the oven or broiler were turned on, they would not turn off unless we unplugged the oven. The actual burners worked perfectly fine. We came to find out, it was most likely the relay/control board that needed to be replaced. We ordered part #316101103 from all brand appliances and installed this. Once this was installed, we tried to turn the oven on. The initial beep and light would go on but no click would happen and the oven would not turn on. The burners still worked. I thought maybe it was installed incorrectly, therefore checked the wires again. I even reconnected my old control board which still turned the oven on. So, i thought i got a defected part. Returned the part and got a new one. The same exact thing is happening. Am I missing a step in the process? Is this the correct part? I am getting so frustrated and just want this to work. Please let me know any advice you may have. I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!! Ads By Google Related Models |

I checked the model number at AppliancePartsPros and then cross referenced the part number and it does look like you received the correct part.
If in doubt contact where you bought it. When you say "and light would go on" are you referring to the preheat light? I would check the oven sensor. The board may have a shut down if the sensor is open or shorted. Here is a good link. Check out 7, 8, 20 and 21. http://www.applianceaid.com/elecrange.html

The sensor changes resistance with temperature.
Many control boards monitor this resistance and give an error code if it reads 0 ohms (shorted) or infinite ohms (open). At room temperature it should be around 11000 ohms. I could not find tech info on this unit so perhaps the board just shuts off the oven elements if it sees this. Note: I am taking a shot in the dark on this one but it would be very strange to get 2 bad control boards with exactly the same symptoms.

Do you think there is some initial step you must do when you get a new board? like turn the knob or something, to start it up? that is the only other thing i can think of. Or maybe the oven just isn't reading the new boards?
Thank you very much for all of your help so far. |

As far as I know nothing has to be set but I am not 100% sure as I cannot find any tech info on this control board.
I looked at the manual and it did say that the time of day should be set when first installed and when a power outage occurs. Not sure if you have done tha,t if not it is worth a try.
