oven will not maintain temp. if you bake a cake per the directions first it will be okay. then you put in some cookies without changing temp and that batch could take up to a hour to bake? any suggestions.

That appears to be a gas oven utilizing a hot surface (glow ignitor) ignition system. A first step in diagnosing problems in such a system is observing what the oven ignitor(s) are doing when the oven is turned on and should be heating but isn't.
