I was heating some leftover takeout in the sturdy plastic container with the range set at 175. After 10 minutes, the wife yells "Your food is burning" and I rush in there to look see. The container is melted and I try to turn the oven off but the element continues to glow red-hot. After a few minutes, I unplugged it and the element cools off. After 15 minutes, I plug it back in and the element starts to glow again. But I never hit the Bake button. Is my stove possessed or do I need a new control board or a less excitable element?

It does sound like the control board is toast.

Does the element come on bright red and is the entire element red?
The reason I ask is that if the element shorts to the frame then it can get 120 volts and the control board cannot regulate it.
Sometimes they can short through the feet of the element to the oven floor so part of the element gets hot all the time.
