I pulled the oven dial off to clean "something broke" now gas and piolt stay on so I must shut off gas and unplug or oven is always on.

did a brass shaft come out with the oven knob?

no nothing but the dial which turns too freely with an occasional electronic tic

If there is a valve back there, may I have unseated it ?

Can I pull the face plate or lift the stove top to see? I tried to lift the stove top and it seemed not to want to be pryed up
