Recently, when this oven was set for preheat, the sequence seemed to start OK, then gas shuts off after a few minutes, and heat-up ceases.
No error codes.
Also tried setting bake temp, oven again sarts to heat but then get a temporary gas smell and heating once again shuts off.
Broiler works fine.

What is the oven ignitor doing at that time?

You can read about how common gas oven ignition systems work and the observations and tests necessary to start diagnosing problems with them at the following link:

If the ignitor IS glowing but there is no flame at the oven burner, the problem is either the ignitor or the oven gas valve. And yes, an ignitor can glow and still be defective.

LINK > FGF379WECR Oven Gas Valve

Only an amperage measurement of the ignitor circuit will pinpoint which might be responsible. The ignitor used on your model should draw 3.2 - 3.6 amps. Anything more or less and it is likely defective and needs to be replaced. If the amperage is within those tolerances but the valve is not releasing gas into the oven burner, the valve would be suspect. The ignitor is however the most common (~70-80%) troublemaker in such an ignition system.
